Siān Phillips Award 2004: Emyr Humphreys
The recipient of the 2004 Siān Phillips Award was Emyr Humphreys, the noted novelist, bard and dramatist raised in Trelawnyd and who now lives on Anglesey. He is considered one of the main literary figures of modern Wales but Emyr Humphreys has also contributed extensively to the world of the mass media. Before turning his hand to lecturing on drama and the media in the University of Wales, Bangor in 1965, he was a drama producer with BBC Wales and responsible for producing, in Welsh and English, some of the work of Saunders Lewis and John Gwilym Jones. After a period during the 1970s working for HTV, where he produced many documentary programmes for television, he worked for the first time with his son, Siōn, on a film for S4C, Y Gosb (1983). The award was presented to Emyr Humphreys by Professor R. Merfyn Jones, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales, Bangor.
